Very nice - and better than Bethlehem!
By Isabel from South Allentown, September 27, 2008

Nice place, more upscale than any of the local chains, and we feel better food than found at their Bethlehem restaurant. Identical prime rib sandwiches ordered at each and the Allentown location offering was far superior. Some minor missteps: Disappointingly dry and bleh crab cake sliders, and we wish the fries were just real potato and not those double batter-dipped things. Otherwise very good food and nice portions for the price.

Appetizers tend to be HUGE and it's very easy to over-order. Nice bar selection, a bit pricey on the alcohol but reasonable specials and happy hours. Great wait staff, very easy to sit for hours as your glass keeps getting filled. Minor problem twice of getting our entrees when we were barely through the appetizers, wait staff really needs to get their timing together with the kitchen.

Neighborhood is a bit hinky as it's always been. I personally wouldn't park too far from the front door after dark, but it's certainly not keeping us away.

All things considered, it's really become our favorite local haunt.

Three Bars in One
By dax from west end of allentown, May 13, 2008

Allentown Brew Works is a great place to hang out. Whether with a date or gathering with friends. Three different levels give you three different atmospheres, each with a nice decor. The main level has a huge bar, which can get kinda crowded so sometimes the service is a little slow. The upper level features a smaller bar with a nice flat screen TV to watch sports. The lower level is more trendy with sofa seating, pool tables, and a cool 2-way mirror outside the restrooms. Food is good. Beer is very good. Happy to have a place like this in Atown.

one gripe

We had a fun hour here the other night once again, enjoyed appetizers and beer outside, and the wait staff was very very attentive. The crowd of customers was young and well dressed. My only problem and you see this all over the Lehigh Valley is the manager of the house does nothing about the fact that the kitchen staff takes over the seating area like it's their living room, and they put their feet up and smoke and yell to one another. They are entitled to do that they are covered in kitchen gunk and have been on their feet but I think it totally ruins the atmosphere to have them do it where customers who are clean and dressed and looking for a relaxing time out are.

Haven't been to the ABW yet?? What are you waiting for? Decent food and good hand crafted brews! The seafood selections never seem very fresh, though. The crab cakes and tuna salad always taste a bit too "fishy".
Good wings and delicious thin crust pizzas!

Nice place in Allentown.

Love the development of Allentown.. just not running to your car afterwards. Food is similar to the Bethlehem Brew Works. Friendly servers, good drinks. Good place to stop by after work. The little courtyard is open in the summer which will be nice.

LOVE this place

I go to the Allentown Brew Works regularly for many reasons. #1 - The food is delicious - I have tryed so many of the items on the menu - and enjoyed them all. Some of my favorites: the hummus is a perfect appetizer, the meatloaf is to die for and the beer cheese soup is a wonderful way to start off any meal i also love the pork roast. I love the way Brew Works ties in their menu items with lankmarks and area events, etc. Their drinks (the mojito is my fave) and brews (hops explosion is my guys fave) and excellent as well. The atmosphere at the Allentown Brew Works is perfect. I love the decor, the music puts me in the perfect mood. I love the fact that there is always something going on: from comedy nights to tango lessons - it is the place to be!

Best bar in center city
By delta from West Allentown, January 8, 2008

Overall rating:

Hurray for Allentown's center city finally having a destination restaurant AND bar! I prefer the second floor bar for after-work brews. This place is mammoth and it's not the place for an intimate dinner. The main bar on the first floor and the booths are also a great place to hang out. The basement, however, is downright creepy and dark. What's up with the two-way mirror in the bathroom? I'll stay upstairs, thanks.
